首先以马礼堂先生的六字决作为呼的下手方法。本文只强调练其六字决,不强调练其六字诀不强调动作,有条件者到也无妨都练。如此练习半个月左右,意识上自觉已能注意每一呼的起落动向了,心也向静迈进了一步,意识上也有个念头能轻轻挂在呼吸上了,这就是初步的效验。不可懈怠,继续练,某一日功中忽然感到不想练六字诀了,反而因此不练更能入静一些。此时,可以合上念六字诀的嘴,只是把很轻的意念放在每一呼上,同时很微弱的默念六字诀,一呼一念。经过一定时日,可以穿插进数息,从1数到10,只数呼气。在熟练与适应后,慢慢降低六字诀的比例,增加数息的比例,以便全面过度到数息上。如果又出现不适感,须用六字诀重新调好呼吸,才可练习数息,着一点千万注意。当数膝的习练越来越轻松自然时,慢慢的,呼气越来月细,越来越长了,如蚕丝般;不知不觉中,小腹的感觉越老越明显,有气动感,有蠕动感,慢慢的,气越来越在小腹中往来了,一呼有一呼的感觉,连吸,小腹也能有所响应了。当然这些只有练功中才有,只有自己知道。对呼的感觉自然强烈。这就步入腹式呼息了。此时的呼吸,已能充足肺.丹田和全身各个细胞,非常舒服,练功的时间自然而然的延长到1小时以上,而且通病在很想睡觉的时候也能越练越有精神。这段功境,一定要保持住,而且要有百尺竿头,更进一步,否则很容易昙花一现。现在,要注意阴阳平衡了,数息,不光数呼,也要数吸。通常是先分开练,等到功夫稳定,就可以呼吸同时数。不过为了自然,再自然,稳定进步,还是建议大家分开练,分开练容一越练越舒服。此时一定要注意道德,理论的修养,努力用功不退。持之以恒地天天练功,避免因懈怠而退功。数息功修习之日久,日渐纯熟,心念能任意从1数到10,完全无心,则数息功成。此时精满亦再不漏,一切梦遗之患不药而愈.梦境日益清净,此为筑基功夫有眉目矣。这时若能断绝性行为,功夫会突飞猛进,再近一个新境界,否则会停步不前。若又有所不自检点,还回功境下降,甚至严重的,一落千丈,又生疾病。数息到最后,觉得数息也有轻微负担与心,若到此境自可放弃数息,只管一心随着出入的微弱呼吸,这就叫随息。呼出决得虚空不可得,吸入亦复如此,内外身心无分别对待化作虚无,从而内心异常清净,直至心息双亡,澄然一片,一灵独觉。如是佛门居士,此时可随息念佛,自然更上一层楼。练功者至此,身心发生大变化,记忆力异常,精力大增,睡眠减少,头脑格外
